Cancer and cancer treatment place significant demands on the body. Depending on the type of treatment received, the physical effects can include muscle weakness, fatigue, reduced range of motion, circulatory and lymphatic changes, hormonal shifts, and metabolic changes that affect weight and body composition.
For many people, weight gain during or after treatment is an unexpected and distressing consequence — one that is rarely addressed with the clinical specificity it deserves.
Exercise has a well-established and growing evidence base in cancer recovery. It plays a role across a broad range of recovery goals — from restoring movement and managing lymphoedema, to improving cardiovascular health, supporting hormonal balance, and addressing the body composition changes that often follow treatment.
It counterintuitive, but a paced return to exercise can he effective in helping you to overcome tiredness and fatigue, help you sleep better, and help your immune system get back on track.
